I have still to tell about Ocean Dome, located nearby the Sheraton we were staying last night, a miraculous thing - a kind of Brave New World water amusement park, with a mock volcano and body-boarding on artificial waves: a 140m white-sand beach and a splash of ocean under a huge dome. Is putting it next to the real ocean a beautiful stroke of irony or a bitter reflection of our times? After all it just seems to have been a bad idea, because the whole thing went bankrupt and nevertheless some efforts we didn't get in to see the remainings of it.
Anyway we left this morning at 9.30 a.m. for another transfer day and fortunately it stopped raining. A first stop at Ebino-Kogen (kogen = plateau) for a short walk around this volcanic area; it rained again a little so the views were limited.
Next stop at Kirishima-jingu. This bright-vermillion shinto shrine is beautifully situated and actively in use.
Nearby we went to the Sakura-sakura onsen, the real thing, incl. mud package! Men/women were separated (which is usually the case at these public places) and our tour guide asked us to take some pictures of our faces full with mud sitting a steaming hot onsen; which causes quite some fun.
We arrived around 6.30 p.m. at Kagoshima in a convenient hotel nearby to the main railway station (and a Starbucks ....), where we will stay the coming 2 nights. We adventured a restaurant nearby and we were lucky in our choice; we enjoyed some tempura and yakitori (charcoal-broiled chicken and other meats or vegetables, cooked on skewers).
